Black, Beth, et al. "Personal Health Behaviors And Role- Modeling Attitudes Of Physical Therapists And Physical Therapist Students: A Cross-Sectional Study." Physical Therapy 92.11 (2012): 1419-1436. Consumer Health Complete - EBSCOhost. Web. 23 Feb. 2014.
This article explains the importance of being a good role model for your patients. If you are not living a healthy life style why should they? Patients are more likely to change their ways if told so by a credible source. Being a physical therapist you are trying to help patients gain strength, range of motion, and getting their body into a better physical condition. You have to be their motivation to get up and start moving.
“Physical therapist students were more likely to believe that role modeling is a powerful teaching tool, physical therapist professionals should "practice what they preach," physical activity is a desirable behavior, and physical therapist professionals should be role models for nonsmoking and maintaining a healthy weight.”
This is a scholarly article posted on the Galileo website. This test study observed 405 working physical therapist and 329 physical therapist students.
I will tie this article into my final project by describing how I will provide my patients will positive reinforcement. I will demonstrate that not only getting patients strong and healthy, but to give my patients the best I can possible give by being strong and healthy myself.

Balfanz, R., Bridgeland, J.M., Bruce, M., Fox, J., Civic, E., Johns Hopkins University, E., &…Alliance for Excellent, E. (2013). Building a Grad Nation: Progress and Challenge in Ending the High School Dropout Epidemic. Annual Update, 2013. Civic Enterprises,
Annotation:
This article explains how high school graduation rates might be on the road to recovery. School systems are starting to have a better understanding of why and where in their high school career students are dropping out. Some students tend to drop further behind and once that gap exceeds a certain point they drop out. Statistics have shown most dropouts eventually end up in prison. When building a new prison to estimate how many cells will be needed, they pull third grade reading scores in the area. If some are significantly lower than others they are more likely to drop out.
Potential Quotes:
"This fourth annual update on America's high school dropout crisis shows that for the first time the nation is on track to meet the goal of a 90 percent high school graduation rate by the Class of 2020--if the pace of improvement from 2006 to 2010 is sustained over the next 10 years."
"The greatest gains have occurred for the students of color and low-income students most affected by the dropout crisis. Many schools, districts and states are making significant gains in boosting high school graduation rates and putting more students on a path to college and a successful career."
Assessment:
This article is credible because it comes from Galileo, which is highly recommended by most all teachers. This article contains a lot of good important facts and the authors know what they are talking about and have done a lot of research. Robert Balfanz, one of four authors of this article, has a PhD, is a co-director of the Everyone Graduates Center and research scientist at the Center for Social Organization of Schools, Johns Hopkins University. John M. Bridgeland is CEO of Civic Enterprises, a public policy firm in Washington D.C. He is also the co-chair of the Franklin project at the Aspin Institute. Mary Bruce is a senior education advisor at Civic Enterprises and National Advisory Council. Joanna Hornig Fox is a senior policy analyst and program developer at the Center for Social Organization of schools.
Reflection:
This article will be useful when explaining that school systems are realizing the problem with dropout rates and what to do about them. This has become a real problem in America today. The future of America is in the hands of the youth today, and at this rate it doesn’t look to good. Although there is a slow gradual increase in graduation rates which means the future of America has a bright future.
